Being a new mom is EXTREMELY overwhelming. There is a new baby product or brand popping up almost daily and deciding what will be best for your babe is not an easy task. I'm no gatekeeper when it comes to sharing new discoveries that I love or things I have found to be life-changing. I find myself recommending the same iconic products over and over again and thought it was about time to share them here too.
So, if you're a first time mama trying to build a baby registry without a clue where to start or if your friend is expecting and you are looking for the perfect gift, you've come to the right place!
The Clutch Changer, R1299 - Dockatot
This all-in-one portable changing mat is complete with pockets and pouches to hold all your essentials for on-the-go nappy changes. Wear it as a cute wristlet or toss it in your nappy bag. The luminous sateen fabric adds a feminine touch to a baby essential. You’ll love yourself for being such a prepared mama.
The Breastfeeding Millie Dress, R1500 - Ammara
Breastfeeding has never been so pretty, nor so glamorous! This dress has been made with two invisible zips hidden in the two front panels, making what appears to be an everyday frock, perfect for feeding your babe. No need for a button down or shirt dress, this beautiful garment will add some 'boujee' to your breastfeeding wardrobe. The dress is calf length with pockets and three quarter puff sleeves, making it not only functional, but feminine too.
The Birth of a Mother Journal, R399 - Mum Well
A postpartum guided journal that has been designed specifically to capture a new mum's pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience. It was created by Sharmon Reddington (a HPCSA Registered Counsellor) and it includes prompts, quotes, illustrations and maternal mental health resources. I have loved using this to navigate my motherhood journey. It's incredible to go back and read my thoughts from some of my most exhausted of days and the ones I found so challenging.
The Organic Cotton Zipsuit, R295 - Boki
A daily essential for every mom and baby. This long sleeve Cotton Zipsuit with footies and fold-over mittens is designed to keep your little one comfortable and cosy while making nappy changes a breeze. You can't go wrong with having multiples of this must-have and I would suggest adding them to your hospital bag too! Madi loves hers and looks extra cute in anything Boki.
The Deluxe+ Dock, R3199 - Dockatot
Multifunctional and multitasking, the Deluxe+ Dock offers a safe and comfy spot that lets baby rest, lounge, play, cuddle, do tummy time and get diaper changes. Deluxe+ docks are also lightweight and portable, allowing for easy travel. This has been a life saver for our family and one that made parenting more manageable. I can't recommend this product enough. The brand told me I'd enjoy it, but this is next level adoration.
The Stella Clip, R499 - Bébé Cadeaux
The Stella Clip is a magic, magnetic clip made from the finest South African leather. The Stella Clip makes use of neodymium magnets which, despite being so strong, are lightweight. This means they can be used for pretty much anything and will fast become one of the most handy things a new mum owns.
A little bit of luxury that is oh-so-practical too!
The Silicone Suction Bowl & Spoon Set, R269 - Cotton Cloud
These Silicone Suction Bowls come with a matching spoon and are wonderful for weaning. They are not only aesthetically pleasing, but highly functional and perfectly designed with the baby in mind. The lip of the bowl is designed to make it easier for them to scoop their own food and the full suction base allows for long-lasting suction to smooth, flat surfaces. The best part? They are dishwasher friendly!
The Little Bear Bath Lilo, R365 - Bébé Cadeaux
This is a buoyant padded cushion that shapes around your baby’s body to create a comfortable and safe space for your little one to float above the water – whilst still being submerged enough to enjoy the warm bath water. With The Little Bear Bath Lilo, bath time is a relaxing, happy and bonding time for both baby and parent. Madi used her lilo until about 4 months and we loved to watch her float gently in the water like the "lady of leisure" she is!
